Sheldon Police & SCAT Win Blood Drive Competition

bloodSheldon, Iowa — The 10th Annual Heroes Behind The Badges Blood Drive was held in Sheldon yesterday (Monday, February 20th), at the Sheldon Community Services Center.  The drive pits two teams made up of Sheldon Emergency Services Departments against one another in a friendly competition to see which team can recruit the most blood donors for the drive.  This year the two teams were made up of Sheldon Police Department and SCAT versus Sheldon Fire Department and Emergency Management Agency.

Ken Versteeg, the Executive Director for Community Blood Bank, says Monday’s collection effort was good, especially considering that it’s cold and flu season.

Versteeg says the annual Heroes Behind The Badges drive is a great event.

The team that wins the Heroes Behind The Badges competition not only has bragging rights for a year, but also takes possession of a traveling trophy.  Versteeg tells us which team won this year’s event.

He says the Heroes Behind The Badges Event is a win-win.

He says the Heroes drive is very important to the local community, since Community Blood Bank is the sole provider of blood and blood products to Sanford Sheldon.
