Sheldon School Board To Meet Twice Wednesday Evening

Sheldon High SchoolSheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community Schools Board of Education will hold a pair of meetings Wednesday, January 13th.

The first meeting is a Special Board Meeting called for the purpose of receiving the Initial Collective Bargaining Proposal from the Sheldon Education Association, the union representing the teachers in the Sheldon district.  This Special Meeting will be held at 5:30 pm Wednesday in the high school library.

The Board will then hold their Regular Monthly Meeting Wednesday evening at 6:00.  Among the items on the agenda for that meeting is the adoption of the O’Brien County Hazard Mitigation Plan.  They’ll also deal with a pair of Open Enrollment Applications, as well as a total of seven resignations.

In other action, the Board is expected to adopt the 2016-17 District Calendar at Wednesday’s meeting.  The calendar shows August 24th as the first day of the school year, with May 26th being the last day of classes.  Commencement is scheduled for May 28th.  To view the 2016-17 Sheldon Community School District Calendar, click here.

The Board will also hear a verbal presentation on the independent audit of the Sheldon District that was conducted last fall.  Eric Gilbertson of King, Reisch, Prosser will be on hand the give that presentation.

Superintendent Robin Spears is also scheduled to give a report on the progress of the Teacher Leadership & Compensation Committee.

The final agenda item for Wednesday night’s meeting is listed as a Closed Session to “evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual requests a closed session.”

The meeting begins at 6:00 pm Wednesday in the Sheldon High School Library.
