Sheldon Teacher’s Union Presents Contract Proposal
Date posted - January 27, 2012
The Sheldon Education Association, the union representing the teachers in the Sheldon Community School District, has presented their contract proposal for 2013 to the Sheldon Community School Board.
Superintendent Robin Spears tells us that the proposal includes a total package increase of a little over 6% for the upcoming year. This includes a state-mandated increase of .06% in the District’s contribution to the IPERS pension fund, and an $800 increase in the base salary from the current level of $37 ,033 to $37,833. Spears tells us that the district’s health insurance premiums have increased thirty-plus percent in each of the past two years, and that the union proposal calls for a $2,000 increase in the district’s portion of insurance costs, from $6,589 to $8.589 in the upcoming year.
These increases would total in increase of $295,205, or 6.14%, according to Spears.
In addition, the proposal asks for some language changes in the district’s leave policy.
The Sheldon Community Schools Board of Education will review the proposal, in depth, at a future time, after which they will respond to the union’s requests.
