Sheldon Vying For Blue Zone Status

Date posted - January 10, 2012

The city of Sheldon has submitted their application to become one of ten Blue Zones City in Iowa. The Blue Zones Project is a significant part of Iowas Healthiest State Initiative, which is designed to bring the secrets of the healthiest, happiest, and longest-living cultures in the world to 10 Iowa communities as well as related tools and information for all Iowans.

Greta Giese of the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center at NCC in Sheldon tells us that Sheldon’t Blue Zones application has been submitted and received.

She says 58 Iowa Communities were invited to apply for the 10 spots that are available in the program.

She says that Sheldon citizens have various ways to show their support, from online sign-up, to text sign-up, to an informational forum that will be held Thursday night at the LLRC.

Giese says the Blue Zones Project is all about subtle changes.

That Informational Forum on the Blue Zones Project will be held Thursday night at 7:30 in the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.
