Sheldon Woman Transported To Hospital After Accident; Police Cover Another Accident, Arrest One, Cite Another

A Sheldon woman was taken to the hospital after an accident on Monday in Sheldon.
The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 4:25 PM, 59-year-old Linda Jansma of Sheldon was westbound on Highway 18 near Eighth Avenue in a 2006 Subaru. Nineteen-year-old Aaron Wiste of Moville was also westbound on 18 in a 1995 Chevy pickup.
Jansma was slowing down and stopping to make a left turn onto Eighth Avenue, when her car was rear-ended by the Wiste pickup.
Jansma was transported to Sanford Sheldon by SCAT.
Jansma’s Subaru received $6000 damage. Wiste’s pickup received $500 damage.
Wiste was cited for failure to maintain control.
An SUV and a car driven by Sheldon teens were damaged in an accident last Friday (2/22) in Sheldon.
The Sheldon Police report that about 9:50 AM, 19-year-old Shelby Houtsma of Sheldon was westbound in the 1500 block of East Fourth Street in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Eighteen-year-old Christopher Balster of Sheldon was eastbound in a 2008 Ford.
Houtsma lost control on the snowy road after negotiating a curve, which caused the rear of the vehicle to slide to the left, causing the vehicle’s front tire to hit the north curb. Houtsma tried to counter steer, but the vehicle went left across the center line, sliding sideways into the path of the Balster vehicle.
Houtsma’s Jeep received $1700 damage. Balster’s Ford received $2200 damage.
There were no injuries reported.
Houtsma was charged with Failure To Maintain Control.
The Police arrested 27-year-old Luis DeJesus of Sheldon last Friday (2/22). He was charged with Simple Domestic Abuse Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor. He was taken into custody and transported to jail.
Sheldon officers cited 30-year-old Jose Jimenez of Sheldon on Tuesday (2/26) on a charge of Driving Under Suspension. He was cited and released.
