Sheldon’s New Caseys At Old 60 And 18 Celebrates Grand Opening, Ribbon Cutting

Date posted - December 24, 2012

new_caseysSheldon, Iowa — Sheldon’s newest convenience store is open and serving the public. City and community leaders were on hand on Friday to cut a ribbon and give some accolades to Casey’s for their brand new store at the corner of Old Highway 60 and Highway 18 in Sheldon.

City Manager Scott Wynja represented the City of Sheldon.

Next, Mark Klienwolterink spoke on behalf of the Sheldon Chamber and Development.

KIWA’s own Tom Traughber spoke on behalf of the Sheldon Ambassadors.

KIWA’s Mark Rector next introduced the manager of the new Casey’s.

We talked to Bill Walljasper, Senior Vice President and CFO of Casey’s corporate in Ankeny back in July, and he told us what to expect at the new Casey’s.

He says they intend to sell the old Casey’s across the street — the one that used to be Kum and Go, and before that, SuperAmerica.

Starting January 1st, the new Casey’s will be the only 24-hour convenience store in Sheldon. Until then, they are open regular hours.

Awesome. Sheldon needed a gas station in the worst way.

The soon to be closed location has a really limited future with Casey’s having a “NON-COMPETE DEED RESTRICTIONS in regards to the sale of gasoline or other motor fuels, cigarettes, tobacco products, groceries, alcoholic beverages, or prepared foods, including pizza and donuts for a period of 15 years.” So a town like Hawarden where they now have two locations (one a Casey’s and the other a shutdown Kum & Go bought by Casey’s) have little or no options for a new owner to use in what is a high traffic area. High traffic area = more people who see run down closed building in your community. In case you are curious what other sites are listed for:

is this new caseys even Semi Friendly anymore? if not theres no where in sheldon we can get fuel at because trucks arent able to get into the fuel island at the sheldon plaza. this is going to hurt sheldon!

    • Ashshade says:

The new Caseys has a lane behind the store where ONE truck can fill up, if they can make the corner. The old caseys was not semi friendly, a truck could get fuel there but it took a little, not nice though.

There are hundreds of trucks going through Sheldon on any given day, not to mention pickups with trailers that need diesel. The drivers of these trucks need places to stop get fuel, food, even a bathroom. Why not give them a place to go? I could not belive that someone built sheldon plaza just off of hwy 60 that a truck could not get into.

No we don’t need a big pilot, they are dirty and attract dirty people. Just something like Sibley, Hull, Marcus, Hinton, or even pump & pack in Rock Rapids. A truck can get in and out easy. Local farmers with a trailer can fuel up, get a snack, rest – whatever. Why is this so hard for Sheldon to understand?

I checked today, and the Ag Partners (old AGP/Midwest Coop lot west across the railroad tracks from Bomgaars) diesel pumps are still active and will take a credit card, or you can go up to the Ag Partners office north of Dairy Dandy, and set up a cardtrol account for monthly billing.

There’s plenty of room in that lot to turn a semi around.

Or you could call Ahlers Oil, and they will deliver to your storage tank if you are on a farm or acreage.
