Sheldon’s Risefest To Feature Top Freestyle Skateboard Evangelist

Date posted - March 10, 2012

A top freestyle skateboarder has been added to the list of performers at this year’s Risefest, which is to be held in Sheldon for the first time this year.

RISE Ministries says that professional freestyle skateboard evangelist Tim Byrne has been added to this summer’s RiseFest lineup. Byrne joins a lineup of music that already includes Tenth Avenue North, Natalie Grant, Matt Maher, Rapture Ruckus, and Remedy Drive.

Founder and President of RISE Ministries Rob Roozeboom says that Tim Byrne is one of the top freestyle skateboarders in the world. He says that what Byrne can do with a skateboard in an 8×8 area is unbelievable. But, Roozeboom says that what really stands out is Byrne’s friendship, his passion, and desire to share the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

Roozeboom says it’s always a blessing to have Tim Byrne at the festival.

Tim Byrne, one of the pioneers in skateboard ministry has been traveling and sharing the Gospel for 10 years. After his radical salvation in 2000, Tim joined Manna Skateboards, which was the first company to book and market a skateboard company to the Christian public. The tours in the early 2000’s would often place these skaters with the top Christian artists such as Pillar, Newsboys, TobyMac, POD, Skillet, Kutless, etc. “Every year I look forward to being a part of Rise Fest. It is by far one of my favorite events of my summer tour,” says Byrne “Even though there are 1000’s of people that swarm the small town of Sheldon IA, you still feel that down home vibe and of course the love of Christ shines through these humble servants. I feel genuinely blessed to be invited back once again for 2012.”

The past 10 years Tim has had the privilege to see hundreds of 1000’s come to Jesus and share the gospel in nearly every state in the U.S. as well as overseas. Today Tim is on the forefront as a speaker and pro skater to a world that needs Jesus, he has partnered with Reach Your City in Nashville who helps connect him with local churches trying to reach their communities for Christ. Tim is also part of the Luis Palau NGA Alliance. Tim and his wife Liz are both involved in full time ministry at home in Portland, Oregon.

In it’s seventh installment, RiseFest, the one day Christian music festival, is scheduled June 16th, 2012 at the Sheldon Crossing on the Highway 60 bypass. The festival kicks off with a revamped Rise Run, will have food and merchandise vendors, a Kids Zone, seminars and other activities. Children 10 and under are free! Fans can take advantage of $15 tickets and the Early Bird Special package by purchasing 8 tickets and getting 2 free. The special lasts until April 30.
