Sheriff Urges Locking Of Cars, Removal Of Valuables

Rock Rapids, Iowa — After a number of reports of items missing from vehicles in the county, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has issued a statement.

The statement released by the Sheriff’s Office says that Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep is urging Lyon County citizens and visitors to lock their vehicles at night and take their valuables into their homes.

The report says that the county has had a rash of thefts from unlocked vehicles. It says these thefts have been reported in Alvord, Doon, Larchwood, Inwood, and Rock Rapids, as well as the unincorporated Lyon County town of Beloit, just south of the Big Sioux River, south of Canton, South Dakota.

Law enforcement officers encourage you to call them if you notice anything missing or see any suspicious activity.
