Sheriff Warns Of IRS Scam After Hospers Incident

Hospers, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s office is warning of a scam after a recent incident in Hospers.

The sheriff’s office says that on Tuesday afternoon, February 3, they investigated a report someone claiming to be an agent from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) contacting a Hospers resident. The caller stated that the IRS was initiating a lawsuit against the resident.

The Sheriff’s Office says there have been similar calls in our area.

They advise that if you’re the recipient of a phone call where someone claims to work for the IRS, notifies you that you are the subject of an investigation, directs you to send any money, or provide the caller with any personal information, you should not respond to the request. Disconnect from the phone call and contact your local law enforcement.
