Sibley Man Sentenced On Tampering With Records Charge In Connection With Sibley Fire Department Theft

Osceola co courthouse - summerSibley, Iowa — A Sibley man has been sentenced on a charge of Tampering With Records after he took property from the Sibley Fire Department last July and was sentenced for Second Degree Theft.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports that 29-year-old Derek Michael White of Sibley was charged with 2nd Degree Theft, a Class D Felony on July 11, 2012, when he unlawfully took property belonging to the Sibley Fire Department.

On September 14, 2012 White was charged with 2 counts of Perjury, a Class “D” Felony for knowingly making false statements of material fact or denying knowledge of a material fact while under oath, once on July 5, 2012 and once on July 26, 2010. These charges were changed to Tampering With Records, an aggravated misdemeanor. White also pled guilty to the charge of Theft in the Second Degree.

On Friday (6/14/13), White pled guilty to 2 counts of Tampering With Records. On each offense, White was sentenced to 1 year in the Osceola County Jail, however, 6 months of the sentence was suspended and White is to serve 6 months in the Osceola County Jail with no opportunity for work release. He is to serve the two sentences concurrently, after he has served his sentence for the theft charge. He will also serve two years of probation. On the theft charge, he was sentenced to a suspended 5-year prison term and four years probation.
