Sibley Rotary Sponsoring Special Blood Drive Wednesday

bloodSibley, Iowa — The Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank will be holding a blood drive this Wednesday, July 20th, at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.

Ken Ver Steeg, Executive Director of the blood bank, says they’ll have both of their Bloodmobiles at the Sibley drive on Wednesday.

Ver Steeg says this is a special “replenishment” type of blood drive.

Kathy Winter, of Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, says the Sibley Rotary Club approached them about holding a special blood drive.

Winter said the hospital was delighted to help raise awareness about patients with chronic blood needs.

She says people normally think of accidents or other trauma cases when they think of blood usage, but she says here in the rural areas, that’s not where most blood gets used.

Wednesday’s bloodmobile visit is being sponsored by the Sibley Rotary Club, who will be serving meat and cheese trays for donors.  In addition, each donor will receive a coupon from the Sibley Pizza Ranch.

If you’d like to make an appointment to give blood Wednesday in Sibley, you can do so by calling 712-754-2574, Ext. 260.  However, both Winter and Ver Steeg stressed that, with both bloodmobiles on hand, there really shouldn’t be any waiting for those who don’t have an appointment.

The Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank is the sole supplier of blood for the hospitals in our corner of northwest Iowa, including Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, and Sanford Sheldon Medical Center.
