Sioux Center, Iowa — A northwest Iowa organization is making national waves.

The Center For Financial Education is an organization that exists to “help people feel financial hope.” They say that through free, confidential, personal consultations, they assist their clients in budget development, organizing debts, balancing checkbooks, managing bills, and paying creditors in a timely manner. The Christian-based organization runs mostly on private donations.

Officials there say that out of 2,000 applications, the Center for Financial Education was selected as one of 200 finalists for a national competition for the State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant. From the top 200 finalists, 40 will receive a grant of $25,000 from the State Farm Neighborhood Assist program.

Starting this Wednesday and running through Friday, August 23rd, US residents who are 18 years of age or older, who have a valid email address, can cast 10 votes per day for the Center for Financial Education. The top 40 vote-getters will each receive a $25,000 grant.

Center for Financial Education (or CFE) Director Tricia Driesen says that it’s exciting to be selected as one of the top two-hundred causes in the nation for the State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant. She says they are grateful to Cindy Van Wyhe, their local State Farm Insurance Agent for informing them of this program. Driesen says that CFE knows that “…this is a game-changer for us, and has the potential to help many people take charge of their finances.”

State Farm Neighborhood Assist is a philanthropic program that empowers communities to identify issues in their neighborhoods and has committed one million dollars to this grant nationwide.

Center for Financial Education has five offices in northwest Iowa and has served clients from 44 zip codes in the last year.
