Sioux Center Lawyer Vying For Judgeship Position

Sioux City, Iowa — A Sioux Center attorney is one of five applicants vying for the judgeship that has been created by the retirement of District Court Judge John D. Ackerman in December of 2017 for Judicial Sub-District 3B.

The five applicants are:

Jenny Winterfeld of Sioux Center
Zachary Hindman of Sioux City
Billy Oyadare of Sioux City
Bob Tiefenthaler of Sioux City
Drew Bockenstedt of Sgt. Bluff

Each applicant will be given an opportunity to appear before the entire commission for a personal interview at the Woodbury County Courthouse in Sioux City, Iowa on July 6, 2018.

Applicants must be members of the bar of Iowa, residents of the Judicial District 3B, and of such age that they will be able to serve an initial and one regular term of office before reaching the age of seventy-two years. District judges have the authority to hear any type of case within the district court. District court judges typically hear a variety of cases including probate, felony criminal cases, dissolution of marriage, adoptions, disputes involving actions of state administrative agencies, juvenile cases, and other matters. Their term of office is six years.

Judicial Sub-District 3B consists of Crawford, Ida, Monona, Plymouth, Sioux and Woodbury Counties.

The Commission will submit the names of two nominees to Governor Kim Reynolds. Governor Reynolds has 30 days to appoint one of the nominees to be a district judge.
