Sioux Center Machine Shed, Contents Destroyed In Monday Fire

Date posted - February 3, 2014

Sioux Center FDSioux Center, Iowa — A machine shed, two tractors, an SUV and more were all destroyed in a fire near Sioux Center on Monday. Four towns’ fire departments responded.

Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland says that crews were paged about 10:30 AM to 3360 410th Street — the Brad Ver Meer place. That’s about two and a half miles east of Highway 75 on Sioux Center’s south side.

He says when the fire trucks pulled up, they saw the machine shed was fully engulfed in flame. He says they began by spraying water on the other buildings on the place to protect them, then started in on the machine shed. He says they used 30,000 gallons of water to fight the fire. He says there were no injuries and no loss of pets or livestock that he’s aware of.

However, Van Holland says the cause of the fire is still undetermined.

The approximately 80-by-60-foot machine shed was a total loss, he says. Also lost were the contents, which included two tractors, a side-by-side ATV, and many tools, among other items.

The Maurice, Orange City, and Hull fire departments assisted the Sioux Center Fire Department in fighting the fire.

Fire crews were on scene about two hours.
