Sioux Center Man Charged After Accident

Hull, Iowa — A Sioux Center teen faces a laundry list of charges after ending up in the ditch on Highway 75.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that 18-year-old Amilcar Mendez‐Niz of Sioux Center had been driving a 2002 Toyota Highlander southbound on Highway 75, about four miles north of the city limits of Sioux Center,when he lost control of the vehicle, which entered the east ditch. No injuries were reported, and the Sheriff’s office says the Toyota was not damaged.

However, upon further investigation deputies suspected that Mendez‐Niz was under the influence of alcohol. They also believe he did not have a valid driver’s license and provided a false name.

The Sheriff’s Office says they arrested Mendez‐Niz on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, no motor vehicle insurance, driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, preventing apprehension, obstructing prosecution or defense, and identity theft.

The Sheriff’s was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol.
