Sioux Center Man Dead In Foggy Friday Morning Accident

A Sioux Center man is dead and two other were hospitalized after an accident Friday morning that occurred near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and B40 (400th Street), six miles northeast of Orange City.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s office reports thirty-five year old Antonio Martinez‐Salazar was driving a 1993 Ford Explorer westbound on B40 when his vehicle crossed the centerline, colliding head‐on with a 2004 Chevy Tahoe driven by seventy-one year old Bruce Verhoef of Sioux Center.

Salazar was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sioux County Medical Examiner.  Verhoef and a passenger, 77-year-old Marvin Boone of Sioux Center were transported by the Orange City Ambulance to the Orange City Hospital.

Salazar’s vehicle sustained approximately $4,000 in damages.  Verhoef’s vehicle sustained approximately $12,000 in damages.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, the Orange City Police Department, the Orange City Fire Department and the Orange City Ambulance.
