Sioux Center Man Transported To Hospital After Truck Accident Near Hawarden

Hawarden, Iowa — A Sioux Center man was taken to a hospital after two trucks collided near Hawarden on Friday (8/3).

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 9:05 AM, 24-year-old Bradley Voichahoske of South Sioux City, NE, was driving a 2007 Sterling garbage truck eastbound on Highway 10, four and a half miles east of Hawarden. Twenty-one-year-old Dirk De Koning of Sioux Center was driving a 2007 Sterling semi‐tractor pulling a side dump SmithCo trailer loaded with rock eastbound on Highway 10. Voichahoske was attempting to make a right turn onto a residence drive when De Koning collided with the rear of the garbage truck. De Koning then lost control of the semi, which entered the south ditch.

De Koning was transported to the Hawarden Hospital by the Ireton Ambulance.

The garbage truck sustained about $3,000 in damages. The semi‐tractor and trailer, owned by Boer and Sons, Inc. of Boyden sustained about $90,000 in damages.

De Koning was ticketed for following too closely.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Ireton Fire and Ambulance.
