Sioux Center Teen Escapes Injury In Fiery Crash

Fiery CrashSioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center teen escaped injury but the SUV he was driving was destroyed in a fiery crash near Sioux Center on Monday (8/19/13).

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 8:10 PM, 15-year-old Seth Zomermaand of Sioux Center was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer southbound on Harrison Avenue, two miles northeast of Sioux Center, when he lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway, struck a MidAmerican Energy utility pole and rolled onto its side.  Following the accident, the vehicle became engulfed in flames.

No injuries were reported.

The Ford sustained approximately $9,500 in damages.  The utility pole sustained an estimated $500 in damages.

Zomermaand was ticketed for failure to maintain control.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sioux Center Fire Department, Sioux Center Ambulance and Sioux Center Police Department.
