The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7:55 AM, 15-year-old Katherine Fictorie of Sioux Center was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero southbound on Hickory Avenue. She stopped for the stop sign at 370th Street, two miles northeast of Sioux Center. Twenty-five-year-old Lucas Hitz of Orange City was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup westbound on 370th Street. Fictorie continued driving southbound across 370th street, and was struck by Hitz.
Fictorie was transported by the Sioux Center Ambulance to the Sioux Center Hospital.
The Oldsmobile sustained approximately $5,000 in damages. The Chevrolet pickup sustained approximately $3,000 in damages.
Fictorie was cited for failing to yield from a stop sign.
The Sioux Center Fire Department and Sioux Center Ambulance assisted the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
Incidentally, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports nine accidents on their web site for Thursday, January 16th. Fortunately, this was the only one that included a victim being transported via ambulance. There was one accident in which a victim was transported to a hospital by private vehicle, but there were no injuries reported in the other accidents.
