Date posted - November 19, 2012

Orange City, Iowa — A Sioux Center woman has been sentenced to a suspended prison term, some time in jail, probation, and other penalties for burglary and criminal mischief of a local business.

Sioux County Attorney Coleman McAllister says 26-year-old Elicia Sue Sandbulte of Sioux Center pled guilty and was sentenced on Monday, (11/19) for Burglary in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, a Serious Misdemeanor.

On May 18, 2012, the Shell SiouxPer Center in Sioux Center discovered that someone had smashed a window, entered the business, and taken about $4,400 in cash and checks from the business during the night. After reviewing video surveillance tapes, the Sioux Center Police Department and the business identified Elicia Sandbulte as a possible suspect. Sandbulte was interviewed by the Sioux Center Police and, after she admitted involvement in the crime, she was arrested.

Sandbulte was sentenced to five years in prison on the burglary charge and to 60 days in jail on the misdemeanor criminal mischief charge, with the sentences to run concurrently. The five-year prison term was suspended; however, Sandbulte must actually serve the 60 days in jail. Sandbulte was also ordered to pay victim restitution totaling $3,041, fines totaling $1,065, surcharges, and court costs. She will serve two years’ probation. As special conditions of probation, Sandbulte may be directed to reside at a Residential Treatment Facility until maximum benefits have been achieved. She is also to abstain from all alcohol and illegal drugs, and obtain a mental health evaluation and follow any recommended treatment.
