Original Story:
Sioux City, Iowa — The Sioux City Police Department wants the public’s help in locating a wanted Sioux Center sex offender who was sentenced for sex abuse in Sioux County.

According to Sioux City police, 44-year-old Danny Lee Barnes cut off his tracking bracelet and has an active warrant for a parole violation.

Sioux County Attorney Thomas Kunstle says that Barnes, who was then from Sioux Center was sentenced on December 28, 2015, in Sioux County District Court for the crime Assault With Intent To Commit Sex Abuse.

According to court records, in July 2014 Barnes began making physical advances on a friend of his family, the 14-year-old female victim. He eventually had non-consensual intercourse with her and told her not to tell. Authorities were contacted in October of that year, and in November 2014, Barnes was charged with Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, a Class C felony.

However, in exchange for Barnes’ plea of guilty to the amended charge of Assault with Intent to Commit Sex Abuse, the parties agreed Barnes would be sentenced to a two-year prison term. The police, the victim, and victim’s family supported this plea agreement. After serving his prison sentence, he was also to be committed to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections for a period of 10 years, as though he were on parole and was also required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Police say Barnes’ height is about 6’1″ and his weight is about 200 pounds.
