Sheldon, IA — The official count is in. People of all ages came from miles around Saturday to make Risefest 2013 a huge success. In fact, the total number of people at Risefest this year was 6100. Festival organizers had 6300 tickets for sale and at the end of the evening 200 remained unsold.
Risefest is a Christian music festival put on each year by Rise Ministries, located in Sheldon. This was the second Risefest to be held in Sheldon, and the first to span a two day period. Planners say Risefest will remain in Sheldon in 2014 but a new location is being sought. The current Risefest location will be developed beginning this fall.
Many of Friday night’s activities were canceled when the skies opened and severe thunderstorms rumbled through the area. Saturday dawned gloomy and rainy, as well, but by mid-day the skies had cleared, and a cool breeze helped dry things up. What started out gloomy and wet turned into a beautiful day for Risefest 2013.
In addition to musical guests including Christian artists MercyMe, Matthew West, Mandisa, Sidewalk Prophets, and Royal Tailor, Jep Robertson, one of the stars of the hit Reality TV series “Duck Dynasty”, was on hand to share a Q & A session with Rise Ministries founder Rob Roozeboom and his wife, Sharla.
Saturday evening was capped off by a fireworks display.
