Smoky Freestyle Chili Takes Top Honors At Cain Ellsworth Chili Cook-Off

Sheldon, Iowa — The 9th Annual Cain Ellsworth & Co. Chili Cook-Off was held Tuesday noon, with five chilis vying for top honors. 

A three-judge panel comprised of Nathan Vander Plaats of Community Health Center in Sioux Center, Skip Tanner of KIWA Radio, and Dave Heynen of Farmers Mutual Insurance Agency in Hull sampled each of the five chilis before deciding on the 2018 champion.

Chilis entered were from Tommy Pollema, Abby Kramer, Kara Acevedo, Erica Haack and Brenda Fritsch.

Fritsch walked away with 1st place for her Smoky Freestyle Chili which featured smoked sausage, chick peas and sweet potatoes as its main ingredients.

Cain Ellsworth & Company thanks all those who brought chili for the competition, as well as the judges who had the difficult task of picking a winner.
