Social Media Issues & Sexting To Be Topic Of Thursday Night Program In Sheldon

image001Sheldon, Iowa — The School Liaison Officer for the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office will be in Sheldon this Thursday evening, March 30th, to talk with Sheldon students, parents, and the public about social media, and the pitfalls of using it improperly.

Deputy Waylon Pollema talks about some of the topics that will be in his presentation Thursday evening.

Pollema says the things you put on social media now can negatively affect you when it comes time to apply for college, or a job.

One of the topics of Deputy Pollema’s program Thursday night will be “sexting”, which is the practice of sending and receiving inappropriate photos through a cell phone, or computer.

He talks about the potential penalties for running afoul of some of those laws.

Pollema reminds teens that once those photos leave their phone or computer, they no longer have control over the photos.

Thursday night’s program will be presented in the Sheldon High School Gym, and will begin at 7:00 pm.   Parents, students, teachers, and community members are invited to attend to gather new information and get questions answered about these important topics.
