sTEP Program Continues Through Saturday

ISP patrol car zoom on logosNorthwest Iowa — Earlier this week we told you about a Special Traffic Enforcement Period, or sTEP, that is going on in conjunction with St. Patrick’s Day.  The focus of the sTEP is to help keep motorists safe by taking impaired drivers off Iowa’s roadways during this party-rich holiday weekend.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz reminds motorists that they aren’t alone on the roadways.

Kurtz reminds us that each number in the fatality totals was a real, live human being with a family who, now, must go on without them.

In addition to impaired driving, troopers, deputies, and local police will be on the lookout for distracted driving, speeding, and motorists not wearing their seat belts.

Trooper Kurtz says his best advice is to buckle your seat belt, slow down, pay attention to your driving, and if your celebration includes alcohol, choose a designated driver BEFORE you begin to celebrate.

The St. Patrick’s Day sTEP period began Wednesday (March 15th), and continues through Saturday (March 18th).
