Summary of Thursday Sheldon City Council Meeting

Council ChambersSheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council met briefly Thursday to take care of a few agenda items, and then to look to the future.

The Council approved the appointment of Dave Popkes as a new member of the Airport Commission. Popkes will replace Steve Drenkow who recently submitted his resignation.  They also designated the Sheldon Mail-Sun, Northwest Iowa Review and the Sioux City Journal as the official newspapers for the City of Sheldon in 2014.  And they named Sheldon’s four banks as well as the Iowa Public Agency Investment Trust of Des Moines as depositories of City funds.

The council also set February 4th as the date for a Goal-Setting Session; and announced that the next council meeting which will be held on January 15th will be the inaugural meeting for the use of computer tablets for their meeting agendas.  In the past, council  members and the media received a packet of agenda materials a few days before each meeting.  It was announced that Wayne Barahona of Super Hi-Tech will be present at that meeting to guide the council through the use of the tablets.
