Summer Lunch Program Gets $500 Donation

mealSheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Summer Lunch Program is a ministry that serves lunch each Monday through Friday during the summer months to hungry children in Sheldon.  The meals are served each day at the Sheldon United Methodist Church.  Recently, the program received a $500 donation from ALCECO, the majority owner of Ag Partners in Sheldon, along with Land O’ Lakes.

Summer Lunch Program Coordinator Tricia Meendering tells us what that gift will be used for.

Meendering says the program has been very well attended.

She tells us how the Sheldon Summer Lunch Program got it’s start.

Meendering says the program serves lunches each Monday through Friday from 11 am to 1 pm beginning the first Monday after the end of the school year, and continuing through the last day of summer vacation each year.

She says the program, which is completely funded through donations from the community, will begin a fund drive next month.

Meendering says that, in addition to monetary donations, donations of your time to help out with the meals each day is needed as well, since the program is staffed entirely with volunteers.

She says that, while it’s unfortunate that the need exists for such a program, it is a blessing for all who come in contact with it.

Again, donations of any amount, as well as donations of your time, are always welcome and appreciated.  Checks can be sent to the Sheldon United Methodist Church.  Make the checks payable to “Sheldon Summer Lunch Program.”
