Sutherland Car Stolen

Date posted - March 7, 2012

A Cherokee man has been arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle report in Sutherland.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office received the report on Sunday Morning (3/4) from a rural Sutherland resident. The vehicle was taken sometime between the late evening on Saturday and Sunday morning. The keys had been left in the vehicle.

An attempt to locate the vehicle was put out to northwest Iowa law enforcement. Further investigation revealed an abandoned vehicle some distance away from where the stolen vehicle was reported. The vehicle was later located in Cherokee.

A Sheriff’s deputy located the driver of the abandoned vehicle and later arrested 23-year-old Theodore Reinert of Cherokee on charges of Operation without Owners Consent, Criminal Trespass and Failure to Maintain Control of a vehicle. Mr. Reinert was transported to the O’Brien County Jail and later released on his own recognizance bond of $2,000. Mr. Reinert will appear in District Court at a later date.
