Sutherland Woman, Greenville Man Transported To Sanford Sheldon After Friday Accident

SCAT Front & Right SideSheldon, Iowa — A Sutherland woman and a Greenville man were taken to the hospital after an accident on Friday (8/30/13) in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 10:05 AM, 21-year-old Brianna Hansen of Sutherland was southbound from the Shopko parking lot in a 1999 Chevy. Thirty-six-year-old Donald Cunningham of Greenville was westbound on Highway 18 in a 2011 Ford, owned by the state of Iowa.

Hansen had pulled up to the parking lot entrance. Cunningham was to her left, in the inside lane of Highway 18. As he approached the Shopko entrance, there was another non-contact vehicle in the outside lane, also westbound. Hanson apparently didn’t see the Cunningham vehicle, as the non-contact vehicle driver decided to turn into the Shopko lot. Hansen pulled onto the highway to make a left turn and was struck in the driver’s door by the Cunningham vehicle.

Hansen, Cunningham, and a passenger in the State vehicle, 36-year-old Jennifer Christian of Sioux Rapids, were all transported to Sanford Sheldon by SCAT.

Hansen’s Chevy was totaled with $6000 damage. The State’s Ford received $6000 damage as well.

Hansen was charged with Failure to Yield on Left Turn and no proof of insurance.
