Tense Moments When Man Falls From Feed Mill

Ocheyedan, Iowa — A few tense moments were experienced in Ocheyedan early on Thanksgiving morning.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, they received a call for assistance at 1:04 a.m. requesting an ambulance for a person that fell.

Ocheyedan Fire Chief Dan Hartwig says someone was working on the top of the new feed mill, and was tied off, but he says the victim was tied off too loose and fell about 35 feet before the harness caught him. He says the victim’s arm and leg were tied up in the rope. That’s when 911 was called.

The Sheriff’s Office says Sibley and Ocheyedan Ambulances and Ocheyedan Fire & Rescue responders were dispatched. Hartwig says in the meantime, others were able to pull the victim back up to the top and then send him down in a personnel basket on the crane. By the time emergency responders arrived he was on the way down in the basket.

Hartwig says the injuries were not life-threatening. The Sheriff’s Office says the victim was taken to Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake.

The name of the victim is not being released by the Sheriff’s Office.
