Three Injured In Accident South Of Sioux Center

Sioux Center AmbulanceSioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man, a Le Mars man, and a Colorado woman were injured in an accident on last Wednesday (12/12) near Sioux Center.

The Iowa State Patrol reports that about 5:30 PM, 63-year-old Stanley Oordt of Sioux Center was southbound on Highway 75, two and a half miles south of Sioux Center in a 1993 Chevy pickup.  Twenty-nine-year-old Erik Wagner of Le Mars was southbound behind Oordt on 75 in a 2001 Chrysler van.  Sixty-nine-year-old Linda VanBerkum of Colorado was southbound on 75 in a 2007 Chevy Suburban.

Oordt was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear before turning left onto Waters Edge Drive. Wagner was stopped behind Oordt.  VanBerkum came up behind Wagner, not realizing that Wagner and Oordt were stopped. She struck the rear of the Wagner van, pushing it into the rear of the Oordt pickup.

Oordt was transported to Sioux Center Hospital by private vehicle.  Wagner and VanBerkum were transported to Sioux Center Hospital by Sioux Center Ambulance.

Oordt’s Chevy pickup received $2000 damage.  Wagner’s Chrysler received $3000 damage.  VanBerkum’s Suburban received $15,000 damage.  The damage to Wagner’s and VanBerkum’s vehicles was enough to total the vehicles.

VanBerkum was charged with failure to stop within the assured clear distance.
