Three Orab High School Musicians Heading For All-State

Sheldon, Iowa — A trio of Sheldon High School musicians, along with several other musicians from around northwest Iowa, will be taking part in the Iowa High School Music Association’s All-State Band and Choir Festival, which is held annually at Hilton Coliseum on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames.

Sheldon High School Vocal Music Instructor Caitlin Hanson says she has two of her singers who have qualified for the All-State Festival.

Hanson says both Orab singers who qualified this year are All-State veterans.

She says that, in addition to the pieces of music with which the students rehearsed and auditioned, an additional piece will be given to them to prepare for Saturday’s concert, once they get to Ames.

In addition to the two Orab vocalists who were accepted for this year’s All-State Choir, Orab Band Director Cliff St. Clair says one Sheldon instrumentalist was selected, as well, and for the fourth consecutive year.

St. Clair says things start off for Gude Thursday afternoon with chair placement auditions.

He says rehearsals begin in earnest Friday morning.

The Sheldon High School musicians will be leaving for Ames Thursday morning after 1st Period. The All-State Music Festival Concert is scheduled for Saturday evening at 7:30 at Hilton Coliseum in Ames.
