Today’s Severe Weather Outlook

A slow moving upper level low will impact the area’s weather today, tonight and Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop over western South Dakota and move into south central and southeast South Dakota mainly this afternoon.

However, the best chances for rain in this area will stay in south central South Dakota with rain chances pegged at 40 to 60 percent. There is also a slight risk of severe storms this afternoon and evening in south central South Dakota, with winds of 60 mph and quarter size hail the main threats. As the low moves east tonight and Thursday, good chances for rain will continue, especially along and south of a Huron, to Sioux Falls, to Spencer Iowa line.

Average rainfall amounts in south central South Dakota today through Thursday could exceed an inch, with less amounts elsewhere. But with showers and thunderstorms locally heavier amounts could fall, especially since rain movement will likely be slow. Concerning temperatures, highs today and Thursday will be a couple of degrees either side of 80.
