Two Arrested, Two Cited During Sioux County Traffic Stop Near Hudson, SD

Sioux Sheriff Car 84-Rural Sioux County Near Hudson, SD — One traffic stop netted two arrests and two citations for Sioux County authorities early on Friday (11/01/13) near Hudson, South Dakota.

The stop occurred a little over a mile northeast of Hudson.

During the stop, the deputy suspected that the driver, 23-year-old Richard Berkenpas of Rock Valley, was intoxicated. It was also discovered that there was a Lyon County warrant out for the arrest of a passenger in the vehicle, 29-year-old Brent Reinke of Rock Valley. Other occupants of the vehicle, 20-year-old Austin Koedam and 25-year-old Christopher Reinke, both of Rock Valley, were found to be in possession of open containers of alcohol.

Berkenpas was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Brent Reinke was arrested on the outstanding Lyon County warrant for failing to appear on a prior illegal drug possession charge. Koedam and Christopher Reinke were each issued citations for having open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Rock Valley Police Department.
