And according to their notices, the resignations do not appear to be related.

On Monday, October 24th, long-time Rock Rapids City Council member Marlene Bowers submitted her resignation. In her notice, she stated that she has had a change of direction in her life and could no longer dedicate the time required to do the job. At that time, Bowers had also been serving as the City’s Mayor Pro Tempore. When Bowers resigned, the Rock Rapids City Council appointed former council member Tami Murray to take her place. Mayor Jason Chase then appointed council member Eric Borman as Mayor Pro Tempore.

It was a position that he would only hold for a little more than a month, as on Monday night, November 28th, at the regular council meeting, Borman turned in his own resignation. His notice indicated that he had been advised to eliminate some stress in his life. He stated, “Work is a necessity and taking care of my family comes first, therefore city council must go.” Borman and his family were victims of the 2014 Rock Rapids flood.

The Rock Rapids City Council appointed Ed Reck to the council chair left open when Borman resigned. Reck also serves as Rock Rapids’ Fire Chief. Mayor Chase also vocally appointed Reck as Mayor Pro Tempore at the meeting.
