Two From Sioux Center Injured, One Faces Multiple Charges After Accident Early On Sunday In Sioux Center

Sioux Center PD Charger Door Logo OnlySioux Center, Iowa — Two people from Sioux Center were taken to the hospital after an accident early on Sunday (5/19) in Sioux Center.

The Sioux Center Police Department reports that about 3:05 AM, 18-year-old Juan Rodriguez of Sioux Center was northbound on 13th Avenue Northeast, in a 2000 Pontiac. The report says he was driving at 55 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone, and was having difficulty seeing in the rain because the windshield wipers were not working properly. Rodriguez lost control and slid sideways into the southbound lane and across a lawn. It struck a light pole and then an large tree. It ended up in several pine trees.

The officer says that both occupants of the vehicle fled the scene and were located by law enforcement.

Rodriguez and his passenger, 21-year-old Juan Lopez Jimenez, also of Sioux Center were both transported to Sioux Center Hospital by police cruiser.

Rodriguez’s Pontiac received $2000 damage, which totaled the vehicle. A light pole, a tree, and a lawn owned by Amy Van Beek were all damaged as well. The pole was valued at $500.

Rodriguez was charged with underage possession of alcohol, failure to maintain control, speeding, no valid driver’s license, and failure to report a personal injury accident.

Pending the results of a blood test, he may be charged with operating while intoxicated as well, says the report.
