Van Dam Takes Federal Plea Deal

Sioux City, Iowa — A former Sioux Center Christian School teacher who had previously pled Not Guilty to a pair of federal sex-related charges has reportedly changed his plea.

According to online reports, Curtis Van Dam pled Guilty in U.S. District Court in Sioux City Monday to one federal count of Sexual Exploitation of a Child, in a plea agreement with prosecutors. A 15-year sentence in federal prison was reportedly a part of the plea agreement. In exchange for the Guilty plea, federal prosecutors reportedly dismissed a second federal charge against Van Dam.

Van Dam still faces more than 140 state charges in connection with various alleged child sex crimes that emerged from an investigation into a complaint lodged with Sioux Center Police back in October. Sioux Center Police say Van Dam’s alleged crimes date back to August, 2013, and, according to court records, involved at least thirteen child victims.
