Van Roekel Ordered To Pay $360,000 To Ames Businessman
Date posted - March 30, 2012
It’s probably not the end of a Boyden woman’s troubles with her ticket sales business, but it’s certainly a significant ruling.
A district judge in Story County has ordered 44-year-old Ranae Van Roekel of Boyden to pay an Ames businessman $360,000. Half of that is for the fraudulent Superbowl and other premier event tickets she sold Dixon Jensen of Ames, and the other half is for punitive damages.
Van Roekel allegedly acted as an agent, buying and selling tickets for customers. The Superbowl tickets she sold Jensen over a year before the event, never showed up.
Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller’s office has received over 50 complaints about Van Roekel’s ticket-selling business, totaling over $500,000 in losses for the victims. The complaints were turned over to the US Attorney’s Office in Sioux City. That case is still being investigated and no criminal charges have yet been filed.
