Vandals In Sioux County Strike Rural Traffic Light, Mailboxes

Orange City, Iowa — The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two different types of vandalism that occurred recently.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports of vandalized mailboxes. The incidents occurred between Wednesday, November 14, at 10:30 PM and 4:00 AM on Thursday, November 15.

The damages were a result of a person or persons striking the mailboxes with a blunt object and occurred six miles north of Hawarden, IA on Chestnut Avenue and in the 1800 and 1900 miles of 400th Street.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to contact the Sioux County Sheriff’s office at 712-737-2280. You may also use the Text-A-Tip program to remain anonymous.

On Friday, November 16 at 10:15 am, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office received a report that the flashing warning traffic light was not working at the intersection of Highway 10 and Dipper Avenue — also called the Perry Creek road, four miles northwest of Ireton.

Upon further investigation It was determined that the four light assemblies had been shot with a firearm sometime prior to Monday, November 12.

The light sustained approximately $1,000 in damages due to the vandalism.
