Vehicle In Ditch Near Sioux Center Leads To Charges For Sheldon Woman, Sioux Center Teen

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sheldon woman has been charged with letting an unauthorized person drive, after her vehicle was found in a ditch near Sioux Center.

On Tuesday, August 27 at 3:10 p.m., the Sioux County Communications Center received a report of a vehicle in a ditch along Goldfinch Avenue, five miles northwest of Sioux Center.

When deputies arrived, the driver had left the vehicle and could not initially be found. Upon further investigation, deputies discovered that a 16-year-old juvenile from Sioux Center had been the driver of the vehicle. The vehicle was owned by 28-year-old Mackenzie Jellema of Sheldon.

As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, August 28 at 11:30 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office cited Jellema for permitting an unauthorized person to drive, a simple misdemeanor. Hernandez-Garcia was cited for operating a vehicle without a driver’s license.
