Veteran Spirit Lake Attorney Has Licensed Suspended By Iowa Supreme Court
Date posted - October 18, 2013
Spirit Lake, Iowa — The Iowa Supreme Court on Friday suspended the license of a northwest Iowa attorney. Spirit Lake trial lawyer James Clarity III will have his license suspended for one year under punishment imposed by the court for mishandling cases.
The court notes Clarity had an unblemished three-decade career, but his struggles with alcoholism since his sister’s death in 2009 have caused problems. Clarity was accused of neglecting clients and mismanaging fees.
The court stated Clarity’s efforts to seek treatment were a factor in the one-year suspension. Regulators had suggested a three-year suspension.
