Village Announces Plans For New Treasure Chest Building

Date posted - March 15, 2012

Village Northwest Unlimited will be building a new facility to house The Village Treasure Chest store in Sheldon.  Village President & CEO Barry Whitsell made the announcement Thursday night at the Village’s Annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet.  Whitsell told the volunteers that they had been heard when they said there wasn’t enough room or parking at the current location, across from Sanford Sheldon Medical Center on Highway 18.

Whitsell says the new building will be built on a 1.56 acre tract of land immediately west of the new Hy-Vee Store on Highway 18 East.  He says the store, which will be built by Poppema-Sikma Construction of Sheldon, will be a 10,400 square foot structure, consisting of an approxinately 7,400 square foot sales floor,  as well as an office, storage room, receiving room, sorting area, pricing area, three fitting rooms – one of which will be handicap accessible, along with a pair of handicap accessible restrooms.  Whitsell says there will be approximately 24 customer parking spaces in front of the store, with parking for employees in the rear.

Whitsell says the plan is to break ground for the $775,000 building this spring, with construction completed by late fall or early winter of this year.  He says that once the new store is open, the Village will seek to sell the existing 6,822 square foot building that currently houses the Treasure Chest.
