Wet Conditions May Mean Increased Potential For Stalk Rot

Northwest Iowa — With the stress put on corn crops by the wet and flooded fields, some farmers are worried about “stalk rot.”

Iowa State University Extension Agronomist Joel De Jong tells us that it’s really too early to know what kind of stalk rot issues there may be.

He says while some fields had standing water in them, stalk rot is possible any time there is added stress to the plant.

He says there may be something you can do to decrease the risk.

If you’d like more information, you can contact De Jong at the Plymouth County Extension Office.
