Woman Accused Of Hammer Assault At Motel Gets Seven Years

Rock Rapids, Iowa — An Alvord woman who was staying at the Four Seasons Motel in Rock Rapids last fall has been sentenced to seven years in prison after she assaulted a man with a hammer.

According to Lyon County Attorney Shayne Mayer’s office, court records say 58-year-old Vanette Todd was sentenced on March 5, 2018, in District Court for Lyon County after entering a plea of guilty to the offense of Willful Injury Resulting in Serious Injury, a Class D Felony; and Domestic Abuse Assault, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

For the domestic offense, Todd was ordered to pay a $625 fine, statutory surcharge, court costs, restitution, and to have no contact with the victim for a period of five years.

They report that Todd was arrested on October 25, 2017, and was unable to post bond. Prior to sentencing, Todd served a total of 131 days in the Lyon County Jail.
