Woman Charged With Making False Report Of Explosive Device At Casino

Larchwood, Iowa — A Sioux Falls woman was arrested and at last report was in custody in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids after authorities say she told people at the Grand Falls Casino near Larchwood that she had an explosive device.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation — or DCI — has officers stationed at all the casinos in the state, and Grand Falls is no different, according to casino officials.

According to a court document filed by the arresting DCI officer, at about 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27th, 43-year-old Amber L. Estes of Sioux Falls allegedly stated to law enforcement and casino staff that there was an explosive device in her purse. The officer says the purse was in Estes’ possession while she was in the casino. The DCI officer says that when they searched her purse it was determined there was no explosive device. Estes was charged with making a false report of an explosive or incendiary device, which is a class D felony.

During the incident, the officer requested assistance from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. They report that Estes was also charged with trespassing and was transported to the Lyon County Jail.

According to the sheriff’s office, it was discovered that Estes was in possession of drug paraphernalia and she was also charged with that offense.
