Woman Taken To Hospital After Accident Near Doon

Ambulance rear blue and whiteDoon, Iowa — A woman was taken to a hospital after an accident near Doon on Christmas Eve Day, Tuesday, December 24th.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department reports that about 10:25 AM, 83-year-old John Van Zanten of Rock Valley was driving a 2001 Ford F150 pickup westbound on 260th Street or A52. Sixty-six-year-old Marvin Faber of rural Alvord was driving a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer southbound on Elmwood Avenue or K30, three miles west of Doon.

Van Zanten stopped at the stop sign at Elmwood Avenue and then proceeded through the intersection to continue westbound on 260th Street. Faber’s vehicle struck Van Zanten’s in the intersection. The F150 pickup then entered the southwest ditch and struck a stop sign.

Deanna Faber, a passenger in the Trailblazer, was transported to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley.

Van Zanten’s pickup received about $2500 in damages. Faber’s Trailblazer received about $3500 in damages.

Van Zanten was cited for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign, a simple misdemeanor.
