Young And Beginning Farmers Can Get Free 2017 Farm Outlook

Extension Young FarmerOrange City, Iowa — If you’re a young farmer or just starting to farm, you might want to think about attending a free meeting where you can hear a free farm outlook from an expert.

The Northwest Iowa Young and Beginning Farmer Group will meet Monday, February 27th at the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach – Sioux County office in Orange City. The topic for the gathering will be the 2017 Farm Outlook, and its impacts on beginning farmers.

Gary Wright, farm and agribusiness management specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach tells us about the Young and Beginning Farmer program.

He says Dr. Chad Hart, Extension Economist with ISU, will lead the discussion, as well as a question-and-answer session.

Wright says that beginning farmers face a lot of challenges, especially in the tight margin times that we are currently experiencing. He says that the most current market information may enhance producer efforts and plans to merchandise the larger 2016 crop, as well the 2017-18 crop.

The program will begin at 2:00 p.m. and continue to 6:00 p.m. Networking time and a free meal will also be provided. The ISU Extension and Outreach – Sioux County office is located at 400 Central Ave. NW, Suite 700, Orange City.

There is no cost to attend, but participants are asked to pre-register, preferably by this Thursday, February 23rd. Wright says new members of the group are always welcome. For more information, to register, or to become a member of the group, he says you can contact Janelle Johnson at 712-546-7835 or janelle@iastate.edu.
