Clarence C. Pohlen, 92 years old, of  Hospers, IA died Sunday, August 12, 2012, at his home near Hospers, IA.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug 16, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hospers with Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Hospers.

Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2011. There will be a rosary at 5 p.m. by the Knight of Columbus and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hospers.

Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen, IA. Condolences may be sent online to www.fischfh.com.

Clarence was born on Dec. 22, 1919, at rural Hospers, IA, the son of Joseph & Frances (Full) Pohlen. He was raised in the Hospers area and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School. After school he began farming with his father. On Jan. 22, 1945 he married Catherine Reichle at Alton. The couple made their home on a farm near Hospers. In 1976 they moved to the family farm where Clarence was born. Clarence farmed all his life until his retirement in 1984, but he continued to help his sons until about 6 years ago.

Clarence was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He loved to play cards of any kind, bowling, square dancing, and they never missed any family functions.

Survivors include: his wife, Catherine of Hospers; eight children, Mary (Duane “Mick”) Konz of Hospers, Joanne Pohlen of Hospers, Bob (Mary) Pohlen of Tracy, MN, Ruth (Jerry) Funk of Red Oak, IA, Jeanne (Wayne) Krogman of Sibley, IA, Jim (Kathy) Pohlen of Hospers, Dan (Peggy) Pohlen of Hospers, Joe (Lori) Pohlen of Hospers; 33 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Tillie Reichle of Princeton, MN, Bertie Full of Canby, MN, Inez Reichle of Orange City, IA; Step sister-in-laws & step brother-in-laws, Bob (Lorraine) Fischer, Lorraine Becker both of Granville, IA, Jerry Meylor of Marcus, IA.

Preceded in death by, his parents; one son, Thomas Pohlen; one grandson, Michael Pohlen; one granddaughter-in-law, Heather Krogman; three sisters, Marcella (Ed) Bange, Mathilda Pohlen, Frances (Claude) Treinen; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Angie (Tony) Grady, John Reichle, Delia (Gene) Alsup, Harold (Marcella) Reichle, Lawrence Reichle, Ray Full; Step brothers & sisters-in-law, Lloyd Becker, Florence (Ferd) Pottebaum, Lillian (Melvin) Von Arb, Irene Meylor, Clarence Fischer.

Casket Bearers will be: Matthew, Michael, Marvin, Douglas, David, Duane & Dennis Konz, Chris Pohlen, Brent & Jeremy Funk, Chad & Steven Krogman, Nathan, Eric, Aaron, Thomas, Alex, Joey & Lucas Pohlen.

Honorary Bearers will be; Julie Pohlen-Skorczewski, Sherry Mercer, Holly Vogel, Kerri Neihart, Krissa Paulsen, Shelia Vollink, Becky Jacobs, Angela Bollmeyer, Sarah, Emily, Jamie, Cindy & Larrisa Pohlen.
