Joyce Sittler, age 87 of Hartley, IA passed away at the Primghar Rehab and Care Center in Primghar, IA on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the Hartley United Methodist Church in Hartley. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, IA. Rev. Tom Connors will be officiating.

Visitation will be at the Hartley Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 25th starting at 3:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Hartley Funeral Home Chapel in Hartley,IA.

Joyce Louise (Adams) Sittler, the daughter of Omer and Hattie (Fliss) Adams, was born on a farm north of Everly, IA in Dickinson County. She received her education in country schools near her home. Joyce lived with her parents on farms near Everly, IA, Montgomery, IA and Ocheyedan, IA.

She was united in marriage to Delbert Wayne Sittler on March 29, 1948 in the parsonage of the United Methodist Church in Hartley. The couple were blessed with two children: Dennis and Darla. The couple were engaged in farming together on a farm eight miles northeast of Hartley. In 1980 Joyce and Delbert retired from farming and moved to Hartley. Delbert passed away on November 17, 2010. Joyce passed away at the Primghar Rehab and Care Center in Primghar on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the age of 87.

Joyce was a member of the Hartley United Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, playing cards, gardening, doll collecting, raising chickens, cooking and baking.

She was preceded in death by her parents Omer and Hattie Adams, three brothers: Kenneth, Wayne and Dale Adams; and one sister Shirley Raabe.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dennis Sittler of Hartley, and her daughter Darla Petersen (Patrick Hayes) of Woodland Park, Colorado; two grandchildren, Jamie Petersen of Colorado Springs, CO and Trevor Petersen of Woodland Park, CO; two sisters: Carol (Dean) Riessen of Spencer, IA and Nyla Anderson of Needles, CA; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Rons of Hartley, Nancy (Donald) Selby of Bellevue, NE and Joyce Fahlenkamp of Lake Park, IA; other relatives and friends.
