The NAIA Volleyball All-American teams are out.
Named to the first team was Ema Altena and Jamie De Jager of Dordt College and Lauryn Hilger of Northwestern. Northwestern’s Lacey Wacker was named to the third team.
Both De Jager and Altena are repeat first-team honorees after earning the honor in 2017 as well.
Altena averaged 3.97 kills per set with a .288 kill efficiency and led the team in ace serves with 39 and she also got to 2.36 digs per outing. Altena ends her career with 1,812 kills and ranks fourth all-time at Dordt.
De Jager put up 10.86 assists per set with just under one kill per outing and she had 35 service aces with 2.43 digs per set. De Jager graduates from the Dordt program with 5,573 kills which is second all-time.
This is the sixth and seventh times Dordt has had a First-Team All-American in volleyball and the first time the Defenders have had repeat selections for the top honor team.
Hilger, a senior from Omaha, Neb., ranked fourth in the NAIA with a GPAC-best 4.5 kills per set, hitting for double figures in 32 of her 35 matches played. She hit .322, second best in the GPAC, led the conference with 46 ace serves and was second on the team in digs, averaging 3.8 per set. Hilger, now a two-time All-American, earned all-conference honors all four years and finished her career seventh in kills (1,642) 15th in digs (1,233) and 16th in aces (149).
Wacker led the NAIA in assists per set (11.7) and put up 1,382 assists this season in leading the team to a .281 hitting percentage, best in the GPAC and fourth best in the NAIA. The sophomore totaled 40+ kills in 17 matches and turned in nine double-doubles (assists / digs). Wacker served 26 aces and contributed 36 blocks and 1.95 digs per set. Wacker, the 2017 GPAC Freshman of the Year, is a two-time all-conference pick.
